Day 269 - autumn color

Record heat here on the west coast -high 90s in the late afternoon.
But this tree looks determined to say it is fall after all.

Day 268 - transformation

You'd never know it was fall today as it was warm enough to use the pool. This must be the latest date ever. You can see signs of the seasonal change in some of the trees though. This is the same golden full moon Japanese maple I photographed back in April with its new leaves. I'm going to take photos of this same grouping of leaves in the days ahead as it gradually develops its fall color.

Day 266 - Sand Harbor

Another look at our Sand Harbor stop.
Has to be about the prettiest lake beach of all.

Day 265 - sand butterfly

On the way back home from Reno, we stopped at Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe to enjoy a warm, early fall afternoon. Noticed this little environmental art right at the lake's edge.

Day 260 - Jenkinson lake

After all that time in the car yesterday, today was the day to put on the hiking boots.
About 9 miles on a nice trail around Jenkinson Lake.

Day 254 - don't even ask...

As seen on the bumper of a truck in town.
One of the hazards of having a truck and too many friends I guess.

Day 252 - a bike ride (and an airshow too)

We went for our regular bike ride along the American River Parkway today.
Capital California Airshow was going on nearby, close enough to see some of the action.
We stopped and watched the F22 raptor perform with a couple of P-38s.
Pretty amazing display.

Day 247 - at last

Out of three crepe myrtle shrubs, only the one that is in a pot in the courtyard has bloomed. And it finally bloomed this week. Does September seem late to you? In other courtyard news, Big Mama lizard is sporting a stumpy tail. I suspect this might be related to our neighbor's lizard-hunting cat who has been hanging around lately.

Day 245 - Bunnicula?

What looked like a normal, cute little cottontail grazing in grass outside the hotel in Reno was later revealed by the magic of digital photography to be a demon bunny.

Day 244 - yellow leaves

I like to see the first yellow leaves on cottonwood trees in early September.

Day 242 - steamboat ditch trail

This is a mountain bike and walking trail that runs along an irrigation ditch in the hills above Reno. The Truckee River is in the foreground and city skyline is off in the distance.
